Identifying and Avoiding Credit Repair Scams

Credit Repair Scams

Identifying and Avoiding Credit Repair Scams

Credit Repair Scams
Many people find themselves in a situation where they have developed bad credit. Those who hope to become financially stable will be in search of the best tactics and resources to repair credit damage.
That is a great idea, but be on the lookout: credit repair scams are popular—and dangerous.
There are people out there who are willing to take advantage of your situation for their own personal gain.
Let’s look at some of the warning signs that will help you identify and avoid credit repair scams.

Removing Reported Information

If a credit repair company claims that they will be able to remove information that has already been reported, it’s probably time to move on.
This is not something these companies have the ability to do. If they make this claim, they are lying at best and scamming at worst. Either way, it’s not worth sticking around to find out.

New Identity

Another red flag is when a company says they will help you get past your bad credit by creating a new identity for you. Perhaps they’ll say that they will make you a new social security number or federal employer identification number.
Once again, this is not something these companies are able to do (nor should you want them to!). They’re just trying to create false expectations, so they can get their hands on your valuable information.

Waiving Your Rights

In almost any situation, it’s a bad idea to sign a form that waives your rights. Rights are there for a reason: to protect you.
In this case, they will want you to sign a form that waives your rights under the CROA (Credit Repair Organizations Act). Do not sign the form; signing a waiver could me you can’t take action against the company later on if you do unearth a credit repair scam.

Lacking Contract

As in any situation involving a contract, you should always have the opportunity to thoroughly examine its contents before signing. If that opportunity isn’t given to you, do not sign the contract.
If you are given the time to check out your contract there are a few things you should make sure to look for. The contract should include:
  • how much you are expected to pay
  • what services will be performed on your behalf
  • when the services will be completed
  • the name and address of the company
  • your right to cancel the contract within 3 days.

If any of this information is missing from your contract, it’s most likely a credit repair scam.

Take Action Immediately

If you suspect a scammer, take the necessary steps to protect yourself and others. Depending on where you came across the fraudster, there are various organizations you can contact.
  • Each state has its own credit repair scam protections. Contact your state Attorney General for local assistance.
  • The Federal Trade Commission should also be notified. They can’t help fight individual cases, but your information will help identify possible patterns of fraud.
Most credit repair scammers ask for upfront payment or a deposit before they’ll provide any services. Since you probably lost money in the scam, you’ll want to get it back!
  • You can sue to regain the money you lost.
  • You can “punish” the company for their actions by requesting punitive damages.
  • If you know other people who have also been taken in, you can join together for a class action lawsuit.
If the company is committing internet fraud or social media scams online, you could contact the Internet Crime Complaint Center—a joint effort among several federal law enforcement agencies.
Lastly, you’ll certainly want to contact eConsumerServices. If you paid for the credit repair scam with a credit card, eConsumerServices can help get your money back. Since you’re probably not interested in dealing with those scammers again, we’ll do all the communicating on your behalf.
Fill out the form to the right and we’ll get started right away. This credit repair scammer has put you though enough stress and heartache already; now it’s time to start taking real, effective and honest steps towards financial stability.

Five Ingredients Of A Successful Mobile App

Five Ingredients Of A Successful Mobile App

Five Ingredients Of A Successful Mobile App
Many people choose to create mobile apps for a wide range of reasons. Perhaps they want to solve a particular problem, entertain people or invent a mobile solution that will make their businesses better. Regardless of the motivating factor behind the need to create an app, everyone is after one thing – success.

Create an App that Stands out

In a competitive market where there are millions of apps already in existence, it can be hard to develop a mobile application that stands out from the rest. That said though, it is possible to achieve app success by using the right approach. Here are five factors that can take any mobile app to success.

Uniqueness

One of the basic principles of app development is to have a unique idea or concept. There are many apps to compete with and so developers always have to offer something new to gain user confidence. It is therefore important to do thorough research on any idea you have in mind so that you don’t duplicate something that has already been done before.

Great User Experience

Studies have shown that the most successful apps are very user-friendly. Simply put, without delivering a great user experience, it can be hard to retain app users.
App User Experience
A good user experience when using an app comprises of a wide range of things. For starters, the interface should be easy to use. Secondly, the app should be fast, with every page optimized to load quickly.
Most importantly, sign ups and other procedures should remain simple to avoid confusing users with complicated processes.

Feature Richness

One aspect that makes apps stand out is the particular features they offer to users. Today’s smartphones and tablets come with excellent native functionalities that you can capitalize on to make your app feature rich. Despite this fact, features should be relevant for the app.
Avoid adding GPS functionality to your app if it has nothing to do with finding locations or providing directions. Remember that too many features that have no use can make your app to look bloated, and this may turn off potential users.

Flawless Coding

Writing error free code is closely tied to making an app user friendly. Quality code will ensure that your app works fine without any issues.
Flawless App Coding
Keep in mind that many app users are unforgiving and they stop using any application that fails to run smoothly.
It is therefore important to do thorough tests to ensure there are no bugs in your app that cause it to freeze or crash.

Solid Marketing and App Improvement

Many successful app developers can attest to the fact that launching a great app is just half the battle. With so much competition to deal with, you have to ensure that your app remains relevant.
The only way to achieve this is to have a solid marketing plan and to improve your app constantly in order to retain users.Remember that a unique idea or concept, excellent design and features along with quality coding, solid marketing and continuous improvement are the five pillars of a successful app.

Five Best Smartphones Of 2014

Five Best Smartphones Of 2014

A selection of the best smartphones of 2014 As we approach 2015, there has been a number of smartphones released over the year that have garnered much acclaim and sales as well. However, finding the five best releases of the year goes beyond sales and popularity.
What follows is the five best smartphones in terms of their features, ability and overall durability that makes them the best of the ones.

One-Plus-One

This beauty features a 5.5” HD display screen that is most impressive, but the 13MP camera and the polished features make this one of the better overall smartphones on the market today.
The One Plus One is one of the best smartphones of 2014
However, the number of features is decidedly less than other smartphones as the LG G3 seems to be built for practicality rather than simply having more features.

LG G3

LG releases yet another great smartphone that is ergonomically designed and with a host of features as well. The new 5.5” screen that is unbelievably sharp has impressed many consumers along with the nifty Android 4.4.2 KitKat that runs the phone itself.
The LG G3 is considered to be one of the best smartphones of 2014
Arguably the best singular feature is the remarkably sharp 13MP camera with laser autofocus features that makes it perfect for low-light shots while delivering surprising clarity.

HTC One M8

While its 5” screen may seem a bit small compared to what some of its competitors offer, it is certainly sharp and large enough for most people.
The HTC One M8 is probably the best handset of 2014
The camera also has an interesting number of features that arguably make it the most versatile around, but most people will notice the clean, metal design and finish that makes the HTC One M8 stand out from the competition. It help that the microSD card tray can support up to 128GB storage as well.

Apple iPhone 6

Easily the most hyped release of 2014, the iPhone 6 surprised some by not being revolutionary, but more like an improved version of the previous iPhone 5 that was a welcome surprise.
The Apple iPhone 6 is considered to be the best smartphone of 2014
The display screen is truly impressive and the plethora of features made this a solid entry in the iPhone series. Admittedly, a few customers have pointed out the fact that the all-aluminum frame of the phone is subject to bending, but that seems to be a minor issue at best.

Samsung Galaxy S5

Samsung has certainly been on a tear recently with its Galaxy series and the S5 model is no exception. Offering the typical number of dazzling features, including the remarkably sharp 5.1” display screen and high quality 16MP camera, the real stars of this particular release just might be the incredible battery life which helps extend this smartphone considerably further than most of its competition.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 is also considered to be up there with the best smartphones of 2014
Plus, water-resistant design is something that many people will appreciate as well. Somewhat expensive, but offering the features that make it worth the price, the Samsung Galaxy 5 is yet another winner in this remarkable line of smartphones.
Overall, these five smartphones have proven themselves to be the best of 2014 and certainly have enough features to make an excellent investment for the coming year as well.
Whether the releases for 2015 match the move towards better display screens, superior cameras and larger size remains to be seen, but what can be said is that 2014 was certainly a good year for smartphones.

How to Report Email Scams

How to Report Email Scams

Email is a great tool for communication, and almost everyone is using it. It’s great for keeping up with friends, solidifying business plans and talking with distant relatives. If you’re not careful, however, email can be used against you.

Email Scam Alert

If you’ve fallen victim to an email scam, take action immediately. Let eConsumerServices help. We are the first link in the chain to report scam emails. Simply fill out the form to the right to get started.

Email Scams: Phishing

Phishing is the term used when someone tries to convince you to divulge your personal information via email. If they accomplish their goal, they will usually engage in some form of identity theft, which can lead to bad credit and a whole lot of headaches. It’s important that you recognize these types of scams when they occur and that you report them through the appropriate avenues.

How to Identify Phishing Attempts

The first thing you have to do is recognize the scam. Any time someone asks you for personal information, such as your full name, address, birthdate, bank account number, or credit information. It should immediately raise red flags. Most legitimate businesses won’t ask for this information through email because it’s not safe. Someone else could intercept it.
There are several other clues that will let you know that the person emailing you is trying to scam you. Usually, they will offer you a lot of money with little to no work required on your end. Also, high-pressure tactics mean someone is trying to get you to act before you have a chance to fully consider the situation.

How to Report Email Scams

It’s important that you know how to report scams. In this particular case, you will need to use tools from your email provider to show you how to report email scams. Many times, when an email isn’t from a trusted source, your email provider will let you know that it could be dangerous. It will also usually show a button that allows you to report scam emails.
Alternatively, you can send an email to phishing-report@us-cert.gov. US-CERT works to prevent other people from becoming victims of these scams.

Get Your Money Back

Reporting suspicious activity will help to stop future occurrences, but you still have to deal with the money you’ve already lost. If you know who is responsible for the scam, you can go the old-fashioned route and sue them. Unfortunately, it’s not likely that you will have this information.
You might be able to get a credit card refund. Call your credit card provider and request a chargeback. Often times, you will be able to get one without much hassle. There are laws in place that protect you from situations such as these. If, however, the scammer got ahold of your debit card and PIN number, you won’t be able to do much about it.
For more information, check this article regarding how to get your money back from online scams. It has even more tips that might be useful in your situation.

Don’t Become a Victim of Phishing

Email is great, but you have to be careful how you use it. Watch out for warning that someone is trying to make you a victim of a scam and report suspicious behavior immediately. If you do become the victim of an email scam, you have to take the necessary steps to get your money back. Since it isn’t guaranteed that you will get your money back, it’s in your best interest to avoid these situations completely.

What is Internet Fraud?

What is Internet Fraud?

Internet Fraud

The internet is a wonderful tool. Nowadays, it seems impossible to live without it.
However, users need to be cautious of internet fraud when either buying or selling online. Internet fraud occurs whenever online services or software are used to commit fraud.
A number of scams specifically target credit card transactions. In this post we will outline seven of the most common types of internet fraud of which online shoppers should be aware.

1. Purchase Fraud

Purchase fraud is most often committed with stolen credit card information.
Purchase fraud occurs when a scam artist contacts a merchant to make a purchase. When they make the transaction, they provide fraudulent payment information.
The actual cardholder didn’t authorized the transaction and is out the money.

2. Online Auction Scams

In an online auction scam, the scam artist posts a listing for a big-ticket item (such as a nice watch or a computer) at a low price with no reserve. Deal-hunters jump on the item, and the scam artist accepts payment from the highest bidder.
However, the scammer may never deliver the item or the item may be worth less than they claimed in the listing. For example, the item may be counterfeit, used, or otherwise different than described.
Scammers may also hack into a legitimate account, typically with high ratings, on an auction website and use that account to set up a fake online store. The scam artist benefits from the customer trust in the account and takes payment without actually delivering goods (or delivering inferior goods).

3. Online Retail Scams

Similar to the above auction scams, retail scams occur when the fraudster sets up an online store and either does not deliver goods upon receiving payment or delivers goods other than what was advertised.
These scam artists may also rig the postal system by sending an empty envelope with no return address to an address in the buyer’s ZIP code. The post office will confirm that the envelope was delivered to the right ZIP code. If the customer complains that the good was not delivered, the fraudster has “proof” that a delivery was made.

4. Call Tag Scam

Call tag scams occur when fraudsters purchase goods online using stolen credit card information. They have the goods shipped to the legitimate cardholder’s address.
Once the goods are shipped, the scam artist–falsely acting as the merchant–calls the cardholder and states that the goods were mistakenly shipped. The scammer will ask for permission to pick them up after delivery.
The victim usually agrees to the pick up and does not notice that the fraudster is using a second shipping company to do the pick-up.
In the end, the fraudster ends up with the goods that can be resold and the victim has an unauthorized charge on his or her account.

5. Charity Scams

Well-intended individuals can easily become victims of a donation scam. This type of scam is especially effective after a natural disaster or during a regional epidemic or conflict.
In a charity scam, the scammer poses as a charity raising money to benefit people affected by current circumstances. Typically, the scammers will create a website and link articles about relief efforts to their website in order to seem more credible.
In order to entice more donations, the scammer will also promise that all donations are tax-deductible. Once a donation is made, the money and the scammer disappear. The victim may also get into legal trouble for adding a fraudulent charity donation to their tax return.

6. Online Ticket Scams

In this type of internet fraud, fraudsters create a legitimate-looking website to sell tickets to in-demand events such as concerts and sporting events.
Unwitting customers will buy tickets, thinking that they are getting a good deal only to discover that their tickets are fraudulent. The ticket seller is likely to be based in another country, which means that getting a refund is nearly impossible.

7. Credit Repair Scams

Credit repair scams target people with low credit scores who would like to improve their credit with little effort.
While some credit repair businesses are legitimate and follow the rules of the Credit Repair Organizations Act, plenty of con artists have jumped on the credit repair bandwagon only to take advantage of individuals wishing to improve their credit score.
Be extra cautious if you are not asked to sign a contract or if you are asked for payment before services have been rendered.

What to Do If You Experience Internet Fraud

Online fraud statistics are alarming: nearly one in ten Americans have been victimized by credit card fraud. Additionally, according to a recent report from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, half of all cases of online fraud are initiated via email.
As such, it is important to know how to report email scams. This is important not only to recover whatever has been taken from you in the scam, it is also useful to track down the scammer and keep him or her from ripping off even more people.
All email scams should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission and to your email service provider. The FTC is responsible for prosecuting scammers and your service provider can take steps to further protect your account. If you do not know who an email is from, then don’t open it. Also, protect your friends and family by refraining from forwarding unknown emails to them.
Lastly, remember that professionals such as eConsumerServices are dedicated to getting you exchanges or refunds from any credit card purchase that you make online.
Even the savviest online shopper can fall victim to internet fraud, so don’t be afraid to stand up against scam artists and know that eConsumerServices is here to help. Fill out the form to the right and we’ll help you get your money back.

History of vitamins, nutrition, vitamins

History of vitamins, nutrition, vitamins

The reliance on good nutrition dates back to Neolithic man. Of course, he had no concept of the formal terminology. He merely recognized a life force within the things he ate.
Since then, the concept of nutrition has grown and evolved throughout the ages.

The First Clues

Ancient Greeks and Egyptians came to understand certain foods could ease the suffering of certain health issues. They knew this to be true, even if they didn’t understand the underlying implications.
For example, it would be centuries before scientists could make the connection between a vitamin A deficiency and crippling eyesight problems. At the time, ancient man simply thought their extra serving of liver could magically improve their night vision.

The Name Game

In the beginning, these frontrunners for nutrition education merely identified specific healing powers in foods. Later, as these discoveries were analyzed, nutritionists assigned letters to each individual vitamin.
Even today, we are left with evidence of the complexity of nutrition. Many vitamins were believed to be a single entity. When scientists were later able to look at the specific chemical makeup, they discovered some individual vitamins were actually groups of nutrients. For example, the B vitamins later needed subdivision to identify this complex nutrient.

From the Beginning

The discovery of vitamins is fascinating as it unfolds over several centuries.
1747 – James Lind, a surgeon aboard a naval ship, was concerned about the numerous cases of scurvy. While the illness was a common one at the time, Lind still considered it distressing.
After careful evaluation, Lind was able to determine foods like lemons and limes could help keep the illness at bay. This discovery would later shed light on vitamin C deficiencies.
1905 – Nutrition analysis took a back burner in the minds of scientists and doctors for more than 150 years. Again, it was a common health crisis (beriberi) that brought eating habits to the forefront.
White rice was all the rage at the time. Unfortunately, so was beriberi—a crippling disease that brought about heart failure, nerve damage and usually death.
William Fletcher, an English doctor, made a connection between the two popular trends. He noted that by stripping the husk off the rice, individuals were missing out on the essential nutrients (later to be dubbed vitamin B1). This nutritional deficiency was manifested in the form of beriberi.
1912 – Biochemist Casimir Funk was finally able to put a name to these essential healing powers found in food. He named the important substances vita-amine. Vita meant life and anime referred to nitrogen (a compound later associated with thiamine).
1922 – Researchers at the University of California identified vitamin E in green leafy vegetables. They also made the connection between vitamin E and the protection against free radicals.
1933 – In terms of nutritional findings, 1933 was an important year.
Some like-minded Americans decided it was time to formalize the research associated with nutrition. The attention given to this obscure branch of biological science wasn’t merely a fascination—it was a health essential.
The American Institute of Nutrition was established—the world’s first scientific society concentrating on nutrition. The primary focus of the organization was to produce a health journal with research findings associated with nutrition. The group also taught, wrote textbooks and published academic articles.
Then, researchers at Yale University closely examined butter. They found it contained an element that was essential for human growth. In reality, they had unearthed the fat-soluble vitamin A.
At the same time, specialists at a pharmaceutical company (now known as Roche) were looking at milk. They found that, like butter, it contained an element that was essential for proper growth. This time, nutritionists had discovered the B vitamins.
1935 – Nutritionists turned their attention to vitamin C once again. This time, scientists at the Swiss Institute of Technology managed to artificially synthesize the nutrient.
1930s-1940s – Vitamins became a consumer essential.
Processed foods contained synthetic vitamins. In fact, it was nearly impossible to find products that hadn’t been fortified with various nutrients.
Scientists moved past vitamin C. Now, synthesized vitamins included A, B1, B2, E and K1.
1954 – While serving as Professor Emeritus at the University of Nebraska Medical School, Dr. Denham Harman discovered that antioxidants like vitamin C and E could help fight free radicals.

Going Forward

By the 1950s and 1960s, synthetic vitamin supplements had infiltrated the consumer market. These supplements made access to health essentials affordable and easily accessible.
Why was access to reliable nutritional products so important? With the rise of fast food restaurants and highly processed foods, the acquisition of essential vitamins and minerals wasn’t the primary focus for many individuals.
And in underdeveloped parts of the world, these synthetic vitamins were a life saver—literally. Those without access to healthy, nourishing foods relied on vitamin supplements to keep them alive.
Now, inexpensive vitamins could treat conditions that had plagued populations for centuries: rickets (vitamin D), scurvy (vitamin C), beriberi (vitamin B1), and pernicious anemia (vitamin B12) to name a few.
Additionally, scientists discovered vitamins play an important role in disease prevention. Vitamin B12 prevents birth defects and can reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Another B vitamin (folic acid) also helps prevent birth defects and maintain the health of the brain.
Once the synthesizing process had been established, scientists began experimenting with different modes of supplementation. Now, individuals can supplement with oral pills, skin patches, and nasal sprays.
The discovery of essential vitamins and minerals serves as the foundation to quality, overall health. Without the efforts of our scientific forefathers, we’d all suffer from vitamin deficiencies and the devastating long-term effects of poor nutrition.

Common Nutrient Deficiencies: Iodine, Vitamin B12, Magnesium

Common Nutrient Deficiencies: Iodine, Vitamin B12, Magnesium

Many health fanatics are determined to live a healthy lifestyle. They monitor their eating habits and exercise routines carefully. While this is great, it isn’t always enough.
Even the healthiest eating plans – like the Paleo diet and veganism – might not be as great as you think. Many people suffer from nutrient deficiencies, and they don’t even know it.
Check out the three most common nutrient deficiencies. Are you at risk?

Iodine Deficiency

Iodine is a trace mineral. Its primary role is to maintain the health of our thyroid. Previously, iodine deficiency was believed to be a health issue that was confined to third-world countries. However, the deficiency is becoming more prevalent in developing countries too.
There are several symptoms of an iodine deficiency:
  • Goiter – Iodine is tasked with thyroid development. If iodine levels drop, the thyroid’s health will be affected. Many times, the gland will expand, causing a visible lump.
  • Hypothyroidism – Iodine is necessary for proper thyroid hormone production. Without iodine, hormone levels will dip. This usually causes weight gain, loss of hair, various skin conditions, erectile dysfunction, infertility, and much more.
  • Cretinism – If pregnant moms don’t get enough iodine, the baby could be born with a neurological birth defect.
There are two main causes of an iodine deficiency. First, most people don’t eat enough iodine-rich foods. If you’d like to increase your iodine levels naturally, try cooking up some fish. Grilling retains more of the iodine than boiling. Also, egg yolk is a great source of iodine.
Secondly, many health nuts cut salt out of their diet. While this may, in theory, be a good idea, you are robbing yourself of a primary source of iodine – iodized salt.

Vitamin B12 Deficiency

This is one of the most common – yet severely under diagnosed – nutrient deficiencies. Why is it prevalent and undetected at the same time?
Most people don’t go looking for a vitamin B12 deficiency. And fewer doctors routinely test for it. If you eat even a marginally healthy diet, it is assumed you are getting enough vitamin B12.
When symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, anxiety and depression start emerging, vitamin B12 levels might get checked. Usually, testing isn’t the go-to response until something major like dementia and autism spectrum disorder (in children) start showing up.
A vitamin B12 deficiency is one of the few deficiencies that cannot easily be “fixed” with the diet. Usually supplementation is needed.
If the nutrient is taken via oral pills, the body will have to first absorb it into the bloodstream before it can be used. The vast majority of the nutrient is actually lost during this process. On the other hand, vitamin B12 shots ensure the full dose is utilized.
Which populations are most susceptible to a vitamin B12 deficiency?
The first population is anyone who has another health issue that is impairing the body’s ability to absorb the vitamin B12. For example, Crohn’s disease or celiac disease make it nearly impossible for the body to utilize the consumed nutrient.
Another population segment that is commonly afflicted with a B12 deficiency is vegetarians and vegans. Since they don’t eat animal products (the only source of vitamin B12), they often need alternative sources.
Lastly, senior citizens are very susceptible to vitamin B12 deficiencies. As we age, our bodies struggle to produce intrinsic factor—a necessary ingredient in the B12 absorption process.
If you don’t mind eating animal products and your digestive system is functioning properly, try eating foods rich in vitamin B12 – like liver, salmon, or sardines.

Magnesium Deficiency

Studies show a mere 25% of all Americans reach the recommended daily intake of magnesium. This lack of magnesium consumption can lead to major health concerns like:
  • Diabetes
  • Osteoporosis
  • Heart issues
  • Asthma and other respiratory issues
  • Colon cancer
While the deficiency is still in the beginning stages, individuals can expect to experience:
  • Severe headaches
  • Restless leg syndrome
  • Cramps
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Constipation
There are three main reasons why the general population suffers from a magnesium deficiency. First, our water is too clean! When purifying drinking water, magnesium is usually removed.
Second, there isn’t enough magnesium in the soil. Since magnesium is generally found in plant foods (not animal foods), the soil needs to be rich with magnesium in order to pass it along in the foods we eat.
Third, few of us eat enough magnesium dense foods. For example, when was the last time you sat down to a large serving of Swiss chard or spinach?! Fortunately, there are other sources, too – like nuts, seeds, espresso (yum!), dark chocolate (double yum!) and halibut.
Living a healthy lifestyle is admirable. But if you want to truly take care of your body, you’ll assess your eating habits and foods at the nutrient level.

Emerging Technology: Telemedicine Explained

telemedicine

Emerging Technology: Telemedicine Explained

In the past hundred years, technology has rapidly changed the way people approach many facets of life. From communicating ideas to buying and selling goods to finding a partner, technology has changed the way people go about their business.
One aspect of life that has also been greatly changed by technology is healthcare. Telemedicine, telehealth, and health information technology (HIT) refer to the ways in which technology and healthcare are joined.
This post will focus specifically on telemedicine, though all of these terms are related.

What is Telemedicine?

Telemedicine refers to providing health care services remotely via technology. Examples of telemedicine include:
  • Video conferencing between patients and healthcare providers as a form of consultation and to obtain a referral.
  • Nursing call centers.
  • Sending still images and videos via the internet.
  • Patient portals for independent monitoring their own health.
  • Remotely tracking vital signs.
  • Online discussion groups for specialized conditions, providing access to information in a group setting.
Telemedicine may also refer to keeping virtual patient records. This practice has become more common, which is a relief for doctors and patients alike because virtual records are easy to find, take up less space, and can readily be transferred to any other healthcare facility.

How Does Telemedicine Work?

Telemedicine relies on technology to function effectively and provide useful, remote healthcare. Examples of telemedicine information delivery systems are listed below.
  • Point-to-Point Connections: This type of service is especially common for outsourcing assessment for radiology, mental health, stroke, and intensive care reports. Point-to-point connections are made via private, high-speed connections that link the point-of-contact healthcare provider with private medical service providers that provide nearly instantaneous feedback.
  • Monitoring Center Links: These links are used for at-home monitoring of fetal, cardiac, and pulmonary conditions. Most links are established through land-line or wireless connections.
  • Networked Programs: Networks that connect centralized hospitals and clinics with periphery medical care providers give patients in rural areas access to a wider range of healthcare options. Networked programs that link centralized with peripheral hospitals are conducted either through private high-speed lines or through the internet at large. In the U.S. alone there are over 200 networked programs connecting patients in these programs to 3,000 different healthcare sites.
  • E-Health Patient Services: Conducted over the internet, e-health patient service portals give patients direct access to physicians. These services are rendered for patients with a variety of conditions, though they are most commonly employed for direct outpatient care. One of the latest uses of telemedicine for e-health patient services is the purchase of vitamin injections (specifically vitamin B12 shots).

Benefits of Telemedicine

Telemedicine is beneficial for patients, healthcare providers, and the medical community at large. If you have been to a doctor in the last forty years, chances are you have benefitted from telemedicine. Some of the most notable benefits include:
  • Telemedicine meets patient demand without the added stress of going to a doctor’s office. Patients often hesitate to make a doctor’s appointment because they know that getting an appointment could take months. Plus, going to the doctor’s office is often time-consuming and stressful. However, with telemedicine, patients do not have to travel to see a doctor and they can see a healthcare provider sooner than they would otherwise.
  • Telemedicine improves access for patients and medical researchers. Thanks to telemedicine, patients in rural areas have more and better access to medicine than ever before. For example, before telemedicine a person living in a rural area with pernicious anemia may not realize why they feel so tired all the time, and they would be unlikely to see a doctor to talk about their condition. However, now that video conferencing and sharing blood results online is possible, that person is more likely to speak with a specialist and purchase the vitamin B12 injections he or she needs to feel well again, regardless of where he or she lives. Researchers also have better access to research opportunities given the larger sample sizes offered by telemedicine records.
  • Telemedicine is more efficient. One of the main goals of telemedicine is to make the cost of healthcare reasonable. As a result, travel and wait times are shorter with telemedicine, hospital stays are shorter, and chronic diseases are better understood and therefore better managed.
Telemedicine is a great boon to society in general. Thanks to advances in technology, people have access to more and better healthcare than ever before.

Home Inspection Problems The Inspector May Not Find

Home Inspection Problems The Inspector May Not Find

Having a home inspected before you buy it is standard procedure for obvious reasons. You want to know that that house you are spending all this money on is in good repair and that you aren’t moving into any major surprises. Unfortunately, even with the home inspection there are some issues that may not be noticed before the money exchanges hands.
Home Inspection Issues That May Be Missed

Even the best home inspector can only identify so many issues in the short amount of time he or she is in the home – meaning you may still find some problems later on. The last thing you want of course is to find home inspection issues that were missed by the inspector!
Keep in mind this does not necessarily mean that the home inspector didn’t do his or her job. An experienced home inspector has gone through numerous homes identifying problems and even the newest inspectors have gone through a great deal of training to identify major home inspection issues. However, homes are composed of numerous systems – systems where even one broken or damaged component can cause problems. This is why there are specialists in so many areas concerning homes – including roofing, plumbing, electrical, foundations and more.
The home inspector will do his or her best to identify problems and notify you of them. Just don’t be surprised if something pops up later on when you are living in the house. When looking to hire a home inspector one consideration would be to hire someone that is certified by The American Society of Home Inspectors or ASHI for short.
An ASHI certified inspector goes through many additional hours of training to attain their certification. The ASHI Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics serves as a guideline for home inspectors on their performance, and is universally recognized and accepted by many professional and governmental bodies. This is much like a real estate agent and a Realtor being two different things based on subscribing to the code of ethics. A Realtor is required to follow the code of ethics.
ASHI home inspectors work their way to ASHI certified status by meeting rigorous requirements, including passing a comprehensive, written technical exam and performing a minimum of 250 professional home inspections conducted in accordance with the ASHI standards of practice and code of ethics. ASHI inspectors are also required to take mandatory continuing education classes that helps the inspector stay up to date with the latest in technology, materials and professional skills.
While having a certified ASHI inspector will not guarantee that home inspection problems are not missed, it could potentially help. ASHI puts out a great guide for anyone who is going to be purchasing a home and getting an inspection.

Common Problems Missed in a Home Inspection

  • Failing Heating or Air Conditioning Equipment – HVAC equipment is a lot like your favorite automobile. It may keep running strong for decades, or it could stop working tomorrow. Sometimes the only way to detect upcoming problems is with a thorough examination of the equipment – something the home inspector is not qualified to do in most instances. The inspector will make sure the HVAC system is functional at the time of his or her visit, but that does not mean everything will keep working after you move in. If you are buying a home with an older unit, be prepared for potential problems especially if the current owner has not kept the maintenance up to snuff.
  • Home Inspection Issues - Heating System
      Cracked Heat Exchanger
    – There are a few circumstances where it could be worth the cost of bringing in an HVAC specialist for the inspection along with the home inspector. If the home has a heat exchanger unit that is ten years or older, it is probably time to have it inspected. A cracked heat exchanger can lead combustion byproducts – like carbon monoxide – to mix with the indoor air. This is not something you want in your home. A few years back I remember a very bad situation that took place in Holliston Massachusetts. The owner almost was killed because of the heating system creating a very unsafe situation where carbon monoxide was being released into the home. There are some inspectors who have special equipment that can check for such leaks. Unfortunately however it is common for most inspectors not to have this safety device.
  • Damaged or Blocked Sewer Lines – Home inspectors know to check for a functional water and drainage system, but this does not mean they can detect partial blockages or pipe damage. They can determine the age and type of pipe system in the home and can advise on potential issues caused by tree roots, but it often takes special equipment to detect certain issues. After living in the house for a little while you may discover issues with the pipes that the inspector was unable to identify earlier on.
  • Electrical Issues – The inspector is paid to come into the home and identify any obvious issues in a short amount of time – mostly through visual inspection. This keeps the inspection affordable for the seller or buyer and is often enough to detect common problems. However, electrical issues can require a lot more investigation than the inspector has time for – even if he or she is qualified to do electrical work. The inspector can tell you if there are noticeable electrical problems, like an outlet that has no ground, or identifying double tapped breakers. They may not be able to identify the malfunction of another component in the home however, if it is due to an electrical issue. To get a true understanding of what is wrong with the more technical parts of an electrical system you will usually need the help of an electrician.
  • Internal chimney issues – a qualified home inspector is going to look over the chimney both from the exterior and the interior. On the outside they will be looking for structural cracking and deterioration of the bricks along with whether mortar joints need re-pointing among other things. On the inside the inspector will visually look up the chimney to check for issues including whether there is unsafe soot build up. They will also be looking for any internal damage. This is where things can get tricky and a problem could easily be missed. In order be one hundred percent sure there are no chimney issues you really need to get what is referred to as a level two inspection. Level two inspections are performed by specialists. Most often a standard home inspection will not include this expertise. Additionally level two inspections are required when changes are made to the heating system. This could include changes in fuel type like going from oil to gas. You would also want to have a level two inspection if there was a house fire, chimney fire or seismic event where the chimney could have become damaged.
  • Structural Problems – The home inspector will include the roof in his or her inspection, and will know how to tell if the irregularities in the roof are acceptable or indicative of a bigger issue. The vast majority of all home inspectors will be qualified on how to figure out if the roof needs replacement. This is an area where calling in a roofer is usually not necessary. He or she will also look at the foundation of the home and examine it for any major cracks or issues that you should know about. If the home does have major issues, the home inspector may not know how to accurately diagnose the problem, or how to measure the cost of repairs. When the inspector identifies the issue being structural in nature most often a structural engineer will need to be called in to evaluate the situation. Roof and foundation issues – and structural problems in general – can be some of the most difficult and expensive problems to fix on a home. If you already know that the house has these types of problems, it is best to bring in a contractor that specializes in roofing or foundations to give you an accurate measure of the damage and the cost of repairs. This should be done as part of the inspection process.
  • Leaks – Leaks can cause all sorts of issues with a home, including mold infestations and structural degradation. This is why it is so important to have a home that is well-sealed against the elements and that effectively redirects water away from the home. Your inspector will be looking for any evidence of water damage and leaks in the home. The only problem is, it takes water to make the leaks show up in the first place. This means that if the inspector is looking at the house after it has gone unoccupied for a while, or after a dry season, he or she might not notice leaks. It will only be later on, after you have occupied the house and experienced precipitation in your area, that the leaks make themselves known.
  • Ice Dam Damage Missed at Inspection
      Perpetual Ice Dams
    – this is a difficult issue to identify when you are not in the winter home selling season. It is certainly possible that prior to a home inspection the owner of the home could conceal previous water damage without the inspector identifying it. The most recognizable damage that occurs from ice dams is a water stain. This could easily be cleaned up by the owner either by bleaching out the stain or painting an entire ceiling. If the ice dam is located in an area where the inspector has no access to see behind the wall it is a home inspection issue that could easily be missed.
  • Septic Systems – In some states such as Massachusetts it is a requirement to have your septic system inspected in order to get a mortgage. This inspection process is known as getting a Title V. The problem with a septic inspection is that it is only good on the day it was done. In other words there is no guarantee that from the time the inspection is performed, to a few months later when a new owner has purchased the property, that it won’t fail. This is the unfortunate part of owning a home that is serviced by a septic system. It is the very reason many homeowners prefer having public sewer. There are some things you can do that will increase the odds you won’t be faced with this problem including looking over the eighteen page Title 5 report thoroughly. You should be looking for whether or not the current owner has been maintaining the system properly. For example a septic system should be pumped out every two to three years depending on the amount of people living in the home. The greater use of the system the sooner as septic system should be pumped.
These are some of the most common inspection items the inspector may miss during your inspection. Keep in mind nobody is perfect. The home inspector is not intentionally going to miss home inspection problems. Like any other business however you should keep in the back of your mind there are good and bad inspectors. It is important to get this part of your real estate transaction right. The last thing you want is to move into a house of horrors. If your real estate agent is worth their salt they should be able to provide you with a few names of well respected inspectors.
Only take suggestions from a Realtor if they are working for you as a buyers agent! You do not want to get stuck with a home inspector that is hand picked from an agent working for the seller as they could pick the inspector with the reputation for glossing over things that are important.
When I am working with a buyer they receive names of five home inspectors that do an excellent job. The buyer can then call these inspectors and choose the one that best meets their needs, budget, etc. A real estate agent should not give out the name of one hand picked home inspector. We live in a sue happy society so guess what happens when you recommend someone and they miss something. If you have your hand raised and are thinking the real estate could be sued you are correct!

10 Easy Tips to Organize Your Garage

10 Easy Tips to Organize Your Garage

It is easy to discuss topics like these 10 easy tips to organize your garage but it is always a bit more difficult to put the tips into practice. Hopefully this easy to follow advice will get you started off on the right foot and on your way to a cleaner and more organized garage space!
Although the garage is mainly used as a parking area, for many it usually becomes a central storage space for things that could not find their place in your house. Moreover, it does not take long for all those unused items to start piling up and taking over your garage. Instead, you should approach the garage in the same manner as any other room in the house. Keep it clean and tidy and do not simply put unnecessary items in there. Out of site, out of mind, should not be your thought just because the garage is less visited than many other parts of your home.
A well organized garage will be more inviting, especially if you are a DIY enthusiast or if you simply like repairing, gardening, or being able to find what you need when you need it. If you have a car that is unable to fit in the garage due to stuff being in the way, this information is definitely for you. These 10 easy tips to organize your garage should help get you started…the rest is entirely up to you! ;-)

Pre-Organizing Your Garage

Since the larger part of the garage is dedicated to your car (it is, right?), you should know how to manage the free space in the most efficient way. Divide your garage in six major zones in order to expand its storage capacity.
  • Do You Own Your Garage or Does It Own You
  •
  • Set a place, where you will put all the items that you use on the go like jackets, shoes, bags and so on. Store these quick access things on hanging hooks or racks, where you can easily grab them, when going in and out of the house. The perfect position is near the door, which is a natural transition zone.
  • Put the objects that you use on a daily basis, like dog food, close to the entrance or in an easy access position.
  • Choose a place where you can keep things with unusual shape and size like tall, long or thin items. This works especially well for all types of yard equipment. This is a perfect storage solution for small spaces.
  • Put the large objects or things that you rarely use out of the way, in the distant corners or on the higher shelves. Your main purpose is to free up space for items that you frequently use, such as sport equipment or maintenance tools like brooms, electrical chords, or garden hoses.
  • If you like working on your own projects, you should also think of a workplace. It does not matter if it is gardening or woodworking.
  • You will need additional area for your favorite hobby.
Storage is the key to keep everything organized and clear. Pick a spot where you will have plenty of space to move freely and to place enough storage options.

Garage Safety

The second thing you need to consider when organizing your garage space is safety. If you have children, you should keep the dangerous tools or chemicals and cleaners in a higher rack or in a locked cabinet, at all times. The best strategy is to simply restrict access to dangerous items to begin with which will help remove any temptation that your kids or pets may have.
Never leave hazardous items unobserved on the counter-top, stored in the open on the floor, or in another risky position. Kids are inquisitive by nature and you can bet they will get curious and want to check out what they can reach and get access to. The last thing you want is a dangerous situation or tragedy or think safe and keep your loved ones from having an accident or your pets from an unfortunate experience.

De-Clutter the Space

If you have not cleaned your garage in a while, it might have accumulated a lot of things that you do not need. According to the Department of Energy, 25% of people with two-car garages are unable to park either car in their garage because of clutter and only 32% have room for one vehicle. How can you combat or resolve this trend? Maximize the free space by getting rid of the clutter! But how?
  • Before organizing the space, take everything out.
  • Go through all the items and sort them out.
  • Group your possessions in four categories: keep, sell, donate, and throw away. It might take a day, a whole weekend or even two, depending on the amount of clutter.
  • It is always a good idea to involve the whole family in the process.
  • Divide the job in small tasks. In this way the process will be less overwhelming.
  • Be sure you have enough plastic bags or boxes where you can collect your possessions.
  • Do not forget to put tags, so you can easily spot and identify each item or group of items.

Smart Storage

When creating your storage design, always keep in mind the relationship between frequency of use and access. Items that you often need should be placed in a location that is easy to access. On the contrary, things that you seldom incorporate in your daily or frequent activities need to be stored in more remote areas (corners, shelves, lofts, etc).
Believe it or not, the best storage place for all your toys, tools, and possessions, are the walls. Try to use as much vertical and ceiling space as possible and you will find you have more space for storage than you thought. Of course, putting similar items together so you can quickly find them also makes good sense.

Cabinets and Shelves

These are essentials for every clean and organized garage. Build them or buy them but find a way to incorporate them into your garage space. Since the cabinets and shelves will hold heavy items, be sure that they are stable and can support these items.
Built-in cabinetry is expensive but the results often amazing. If you can afford it, this might be a great way to add some flare to the space without sacrificing functionality. Also worth considering is floor–to–ceiling furniture as it helps utilize the space in a very efficient way. Add in these items and you are well on your way to a beautiful, spacious, and tidy garage.

Consider a Loft

You will find the loft particularly useful if you need additional storage space or if you simply have small garage. This storage solution is suitable for a space with high ceilings and is often seen in garages that have limited floor space. The loft will serve as an attic, without nearly the expense. You can build your own loft or buy a loft kit from a local hardware store. Do not forget the retractable ladder or other ways of gaining access to your possessions (i.e. loft hooks or pole hooks to grab lighter items).

Organize Your Workplace

The central piece in garage spaces is often the working desk. Ideally, you have or will choose a table with adjustable height and wheels so it can be moved around (wheel locks are an important safety feature). Having a portable and easy to move workbench will give you plenty of options when you want to change things around or just get better access for bigger projects.
For those that like to do DIY, hanging your tools up that are frequently used will not only make it easier to find and access them but will keep them from getting in the way, damaging your vehicles if you roll over them, or putting someone at a safety risk. Using a pegboard and/or roll-away toolbox is a great way to help get the workspace better organized for maximum efficiency.

Labels

If you have a lot of cabinets and boxes and you find it hard to remember the content of each, just label them. Put a layer of chalkboard paint on your storage furniture. Use transparent plastic boxes or get them in various colors to distinguish them. Labeling will help you maintain a successful organizational system.
When you are aware that everything has a specific place, you will be encouraged to always put your possessions back where they belong when you are finished with them. Another good option is to hang PVC organizers on the wall for specific gardening tools like the hoe, rake, and shovel. The better your labeling system is, the easier it will be to find what you are looking for when you need it.

Don’t Lose Anything

Have you every caught yourself searching the garage for an item you know you have only to give up and go purchase another one? Here are a few tips to help you never lose anything in your garage again while avoiding the annoying process of searching and searching and only finding frustration!
  • Organize the shelves.
  • Use magnetic strips to display your tools.
  • For the smaller pieces like bolts and nuts, get jars or canisters. Remember to label these so you can find the item you need quickly.
  • Get a few metal buckets where you can store random medium sized items like old toys or gardening tools.
  • Move seasonal items to the front of shelves/lofts, like coolers or skis, where you can get to them easily. When out of season they go to the back of shelves/lofts.

The Sports Area

If you are active or have kids who are, you know the drill is often to hurry out of the car, dumping the sports equipment in the first available spot, because you are too tired to put it away. Here are a few easy ways to end that cycle and get everyone to put things away for later use.
  • Buy organizing furniture specifically designed for sports equipment. If you do not want to spend money, simple create your own, customized for your personal needs.
  • Bike and helmet racks will save you a lot of space, without sucking up your budget.
  • Get a steel standing frame that can handle the heavy sports equipment.
  • Ball claws are the perfect storage idea for a family that loves basketball and football.
  • Lofts or high shelves are a great location for camping gear.
You may have the know-how and are now armed with these 10 easy tips to organize your garage, but without one vital skill your efforts may be in vain. You need to develop the habit of regularly cleaning and maintaining this often neglected area. Put everything in its right place. Most importantly, do not let the clutter take over your garage to begin with. Your garage does not need to be an eye sore, so plan some time to get it in order, and condition yourself to keep it that way! Just remember, according to the National Association of Organizing Professionals, “80% of the clutter in most homes is a result of disorganization, not lack of space”. Happy organizing!

Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!)

Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!)

Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!) @ jollycrumbs.com
Cold, snowy weather always puts me in the mood to bake. There is just something about baking while watching the snow fall that brings me joy. It’s a bonus that it’s the holiday season, and I love baking during Christmastime. So, since it’s snowy and cold, I decided to bake today. I wasn’t planning on baking today, so I didn’t have a whole lot of ingredients to work with. I didn’t really want to drive to the store in the windy snow. So, I decided to make something I’ve been drooling over for a couple weeks now, a low calorie chocolate cake.

This cake is so simple, and I already had everything in my refrigerator and pantry to make it. The strangest ingredient the cake required was unsweetened applesauce, which I already had. It only took a couple minutes to mix together. And the batter is delicious. I find a delicious cake starts with a delicious batter. This batter was finger licking good. It also smells delicious while it bakes. I love everything about this cake. It is on the denser side, but oh so delicious. This may be one of the best cakes I have ever had. No lying!
I also made a frosting for this cake, which is completely optional but very encouraged. This is a light version of a chocolate buttercream. It makes just enough frosting for the cake and a little to sample along the way. The cake alone is delicious. The cake with the chocolate frosting is absolutely decadent and one of the best I’ve had or made.
Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!) @ jollycrumbs.com
This cake recipe comes together like any other cake. Mix together the flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl. In a separate bowl, combine the applesauce, milk, sugar, and vanilla. You will want to mix thoroughly so all the sugar dissolves. Once you have mixed the wet ingredients, add them into the dry ingredients.
Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!) @ jollycrumbs.com
Mix the wet and dry ingredients together until just combined. Some lumps of cocoa powder and flour is fine. Pour the batter into the prepared pan. The batter is thick, so spread and shake it around the pan so it is evenly distributed.
Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!) @ jollycrumbs.com
Bake the cake for 18 to 25 minutes or until cooked through and toothpick inserted in the center removes clean. You don’t want to over bake the cake. It should spring back when pressed on. This cake is dense and thinner, so overcooking it will dry it out. Let the cake cool on a cooling rack completely before you frost it.
Low Calorie Chocolate Cake (with Chocolate Frosting!) @ jollycrumbs.com
When the cake is completely cooled, start on the frosting. This frosting is fabulous. I’ve never made a chocolate frosting that was so delicious. I highly recommend this frosting with this cake, but feel free to leave it unfrosted or frost it with your choice of icing. If you use this recipe, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream the softened margarine and sugar together until light and fluffy. I typically cream my margarine first, then slowly add in the confectioner’s sugar. I like to mix in a little confectioner’s sugar at a time so it is easily managed. Once you get the margarine and sugar creamed together, add in the cocoa powder and vanilla. Mix everything together until it is well combined.
At this point, I thought all was lost. My frosting was dry and crumbly. It did not resemble a frosting at all. So, I just kept mixing. It took a couple minutes, but it did come together. So if yours is the same way, just keep mixing. I did not have to add any milk to get it to the right consistency, but feel free to if you need to. My frosting came out perfectly smooth and creamy, just the right consistency, without adding anything else to it. It was deliciously chocolaty, decadent, and surprisingly not chock full of calories. This frosting recipe doesn’t make a whole lot of frosting, but it makes just the right amount for this cake. I used it all and spread it on evenly.

I have found my new favorite chocolate cake and chocolate frosting recipes. This is so delicious. I’m almost at a loss for words how perfect this cake is. I didn’t really want to share with Samuel, but it is the season of sharing. I love everything about this. The cake is perfectly dense and chocolaty. It isn’t overly sweet, and it remains very moist. The chocolate frosting is also delicious. It is rich, but it is not overly sweet. These two really are a wonderful combination. I love how easy it was to make the cake and frosting. Even better, the calorie content. I can have a nice piece of cake or two for lunch dessert and not feel guilty. This is the perfect piece of cake; you will love it!

To take part in the Twinkle Surprise campaign, customers must first download the “Starbucks Hong Kong” mobile app. It allows someone to send a video greeting or a festive themed selfie to a friend, colleague or family member. When they do, both the sender and the recipient will receive a buy one get one free voucher, which can be exchanged in store on selected Christmassy beverages.
Once they redeem their treat, each person also receives a kaleidoscope box. This is a cardboard box that creates a hologram of the video message once it is placed inside.

Although exact figures haven’t been published, Designercity, the agency behind the campaign say that within the first two days of its launch, the Starbucks app received a record number of downloads and all key performance indicators were met.
The campaign is a huge hit for a number of reasons:
  • It offers consumers a freebie
  • It taps into the spirit of goodwill by encouraging people to send a greeting and details of the offer. And hey, who doesn’t like a gift?
  • The hologram is hugely innovative and attention grabbing
  • It can lead to an increase in sales. Many followers will take up the offer, and while they are in the store, will probably spend more money.
So what can you do?
Well, you don’t need to give away gallons of coffee and create holograms to be in with a chance of securing more custom through a festive social media initiative. If you’re a small or medium-sized enterprise without the budget of a multinational corporation you can:
  • Hold a social media competition that gives away small value prizes or discount coupons. Buy one get one free vouchers are very effective marketing tools.
  • Don’t just give away discounts or freebies. As with Starbucks, make them contingent on followers gifting the offer to someone else. What a great way to massively increase your exposure and reach.
Starbucks’ Twinkle Surprise campaign is an excellent example of how a social media marketing exercise can potentially lead to more sales without going into hard sales mode.
