Wine Infused Ice Cream: The Solution for all the World’s Problems?
Seriously, these guys deserve a Nobel Peace prize. This may actually be the next best thing since sliced bread and could just about solve all of the world’s issues. I don’t know about you, but personally I’m really struggling to come up with a problem in the world that a good tub of wine ice cream shouldn’t be able to solve.
Where Can I Get Myself Some Wine Infused Ice Cream?
The only problem is that it’s currently only available in Mercer’s store in upstate New York which could result in serious uproar in other parts of the country and world. Could this be the next Cronut?! I think it just may be. I hope you have some good friends in upstate New York that are willing to wait in line for hours and hours, otherwise wine ice cream may seem but a distant dream for most of us. What a pity that would be.However, fret not my friends, it should only be a matter of time before other national and international vendors start to take notice. According to Mercer’s there is already a plan to roll out their product beyond upstate New York with international vendors “coming soon”. Please don’t keep us in suspense any longer, Mercer, I’m not sure how long we can take it. You can’t just tell us about this revolutionary inventing and not make it available to all of us!
(Update: Apparently Mercer’s Dairy currently already exports its wine ice cream to 15 countries and counting and is now also available in 20+ States)
What’s So Great about Wine Infused Ice Cream?
Come on, are you seriously asking that question? It’s ice cream and
wine all fused into one – do we really need to say any more? Arguably
two of the best things known to man put together into one product. This
is the real deal guys. We’re not talking about some “wine flavored ice
cream” either… We have all tried that. That’s the easy stuff. The guys
at Mercer actually take it up a notch. This is “wine infused” ice cream.
In other words, there is real wine going into that ice cream with real
alcohol inside and it packs a punch. It has about 5% alcohol contained
within it so this one is definitely not for the kids. All jokes aside,
you do actually have to be of legal drinking age to consume it.Even though this is less alcohol content than what you might be used to when drinking a glass of wine, you’ll still get a decent wine-buzz while you’re chumping away at that tub of ice cream in front of the television. It’s a win-win in my opinion. You get the best of both worlds.
The Journey to Wine Infused Ice Cream
Although we can’t express how happy we are with Mercer for putting this idea on the market, it definitely wasn’t an easy road for them. The biggest hurdle was actually trying to find a recipe that would freeze. For those of you familiar with the freezing properties of alcohol – they are next to none. It actually took years of trials for Mercer’s to ultimately create a recipe that froze, but when they finally did, it turned out amazing.The second hurdle was for them to find a way of legally being allowed to sell a liquor-infused food. This was prohibited in New York State laws at the time, and Mercer actually had to change state law in NY to be able to allow the sale of their wine infused ice cream. Talk about dedication to your brand! Ever since this change was made, Mercers business grew exponentially to the extend where they are currently selling up to 300,000 gallons of ice cream per year. There’s definitely a lot of folks out there that love the idea of wine infused ice cream, and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t one of them.
What Flavors Are Currently Available?
For those wanting to give it a try, there is plenty of choice. They have a whopping 7 different flavors to choose from: Cherry Merlot, Chocolate Cabernet, Peach White Zinfandel, Port, Red Raspberry Chardonnay, Spiced and Riesling. I’ll have myself a nice tub of Chocolate Cabernet, thank you very much! In all honesty, I would love to try each and every one of them. They all sound very interesting.
Why You Should Give It a Try
- It merges two of the best things known to man into one; need we say more?
- It may just be the cure for all of the world’s problems. Let us know if there is something out there that you think wine ice cream can’t cure because I definitely can’t seem to come up with anything…
- It squarely dethrones plain old ice cream as the best cure for a bad breakup after decades of being the best cure. “There’s a new guy in town everyone, and his name is wine ice cream”.
- You can pretend that you still get all the same health benefits from wine ice cream that you would get from drinking a normal glass of red wine. (Or maybe not… but it’s as good a reason as any to try it in my books)
- It still gives you that good old sugar rush that you would get after eating a tub of regular ice cream, and still contains all that comforting fat. What more could you want?
- The age-old dilemma of choosing the right wine pairing for your ice cream is now a thing of the past. With wine ice cream, the wine is already infused and you don’t have to make that difficult choice yourself.
